Article Marketing - Is It Dead Yet?

As you know, I do publish paid reviews on this blog through ReviewMe.Com. This time it's Josh Spaulding of ArticleMarketingDomination.Com

Basically, Josh wants to sell you his eBook for $29 (it does come with a money back guarantee). Which is all fine and dandy, except for one thing - article marketing HAS BEEN DEAD for at least two years. The results it provides are modest at best.

Josh does practise what he preaches. He does write and submit his own articles. I found his profile on EzineArticles. As you can see, you can get about 70-100 "views" in a single month. "View" basically means a click. It does not mean that the article has been read entirely or any action has been taken.

In a year and three month that Josh has been a member of EzineArticles he wrote 124 articles and got about 30000 views. Is this a lot?

Here are just some numbers for comparison from articles on this blog. 10 Totally Stupid Online Business Ideas That Made Someone Rich got 184644 reads (it was published in February of this year). It's not unusual for an single article on this blog to get over 30000 "views" in a matter of days.

I used to submit my own articles to EzineArticles and I no longer do. The reason - it does not work. First, I get 100 times more readers from my own blogs than from article websites. Second, I do collect ad revenues from blog articles, but not from article websites. And third, article websites don't let you insert hyperlinks in the text, only the footer.

The way I see it, the only way to promote your business with articles is to GET YOUR OWN POPULAR BLOG. Sorry Josh. I don't care how good you are at writing ebooks, but when something stops working (like, say popups or banner advertising), it stops working. And 'article marketing' has been long dead.

"Might there be actual dinosaurs on this dinosaur tour....?"

This blog post reminds me of the movie, "Jurassic Park", when Jeff Goldblum says, "Might there be actual dinosaurs on this dinosaur tour...?" after not seeing a single one as they wind through the park.

I'm feeling the same way about this post....might there be a "review" of the actual book for which it seems you were paid, or is that part of the illusion of the blog?

Whatever your opinion is of article marketing, you shouldn't have accepted money for a review of a product that either:

A. You didn't read.
B. You had no intention of referring to specifically in your review.

Perhaps you should not have accepted the money to review a book on article marketing if you feel the concept is so "Jurassic".....

Actually this is a pretty good gig you've got going here. You get paid to review a product and then compose your thoughts on the topic rather than reading and reviewing the material. A nice way to earn some extra cash for a few minutes work, even though I would not call it ethical.

As someone who uses article marketing extensively and effectively, I would be interested in knowing what this book has to say. That's why I read reviews. I'm always looking for new ideas. Unfortunately I failed to learn anything about this product from your "review". Maybe someone who has read it can post a review in this comments section.

Honestly, if you are paid for a review, don't you feel you at least owe it to the author to read the material? Then if it's no good, you would at least be justified in ripping the material rather than simply ripping the concept that many other than yourself have had great success with.

As others have said, perhaps you were doing it wrong.

Just an honest thought

Your Crazy Claim

"It's not unusual for an single article on this blog to get over 30000 "views" in a matter of days"

With 30,000 views you would think people would comment, good or bad (bad from what I've seen of the blog)

Every blog post I've seen here has no replies at all, except for this one.

You may also want to read that Ebook. It sounds like you don't know much about IM.

p.s. learn how to spell ;)

Am I missing something

Am I missing something here....like..."THE REVIEW"

If you got paid to review the book where is the review. This is not a product review. This is a BS rant on article marketing. If you took payment for this you should be ashamed of yourself.

I know nothing about the book. Thanks very much for an insightful non-review.

Lets review your "review".....

Article marketing dead?

According to whom, based on what facts and figures. I am sure in the next few days as long as you dont disable comments you will get comments from many who are making a lot of money article marketing.

Judging by the number of comments on the other posts on your blog (essentially F... A.. ) you are you are definately qualified to comment on views not meaning any action was taken.

But you fail to take into account how many other sites might be displaying an authors articles apart from the directory submitted to.

You basically have no idea what kind of response Josh is getting from his articles or indeed what he is trying to accomplish with those articles.

I could go on but I am not a paid reviewer

So where is the review???????

This Is Pathetic

Dmitri,

Do you realize that you just made a complete fool of yourself by flat out disrespecting one of the big-dogs in online marketing?

Welp, your reputation just hurtled to the ground in a giant ball of flames... not that you had much of one to begin with...

And no, the traffic surge you just had is definately not hoards of adoring fans... heh good luck!

PS: Article Marketing ALONE can pull 6 figures a year...dimwit.

So where's the review?

Submitted by ThomM on Mon, 2007-06-25 23:50.

Let me get this straight.
You where paid to review an ebook and instead give your
opinion on article marketing and not a review on the ebook?
In your opinion you're knocking someone for being able to make something work that you couldn't do, sounds alot like penis envy to me.
Sure this post will get alot of reads and you will be able to brag on how many views it gets, but don't think it will help your reputation as someone worth listening to.

Geesh...this poor guy paid you good money to review his book and all he got was SCREWED by you!

It is obvious you didn't take the time to read his ebook. It is also obvious that you were prejudiced against article marketing before you even took the assignment. Not very ethical in my estimation.

Just think....if you had taken the time to actually READ the ebook you were PAID to review, you might even have learned something.

Article Marketing Is Dead . . .

Submitted by Martin Luxton on Mon, 2007-06-25 21:43.

. . . when you are a crap writer.

Dmitri my boy, if you can't make article marketing work for you then you could at least refrain from making pompous comments about people who are more talented than you.

P.S. WTF are all those Adsense blocks doing on this site? Adsense has been dead for centuries!

This Looks More Like A Personal Opinion Than A Proper Review!

Submitted by JoeR on Mon, 2007-06-25 20:35.

I havent had the pleasure yet of reading Josh's ebook but your so called "review" leaves alot to be desired. You obviously dont understand the full concept of article marketing and just how powerful it can be. I use article marketing as a part of my regular marketing strategies and I can assure you it is not dead!

You tell very liitle about Josh's book but instead try to focus on one small part of the whole article marketing equation to base your OPINION on. You did not review Josh's product as an unbiased review but instead posted your own opinion on something that didnt work for you because you didnt have the proper strategy.

That's a review?

Submitted by nb on Mon, 2007-06-25 19:42.

I thought you were reviewing Josh Spaulding's ebook. If so, you did a piss-poor job.

You made your thoughts about Article Marketing clear. But I didn't see a review of Mr Spaulding's work. Instead, I got a dissertation of your results with Article Marketing.

The only info about Josh's ebook that I got from your review was the price.

You should be ashamed to take money for this crap.

Your Review of my Ebook "Article Marketing Domination"

Submitted by Josh Spaulding on Mon, 2007-06-25 19:05.

Dmitri,

First I would like to say you are extremely unprofessional and obviously have no idea what article marketing is really about.

You have obviously not read my Ebook. If you had, you would know that EzineArticles is only a SMALL part of a successful article marketing campaign.

I have no idea where you get the idea that "article marketing is dead" but you obviously need to sharpen your marketing tools.

Article Marketing is one of the most effective forms of online marketing out there.

I'm sure you will delete, disapprove this reply but I hope you reconsider before posting such an unprofessional review in the future.

Because of your unprofessionalism, I will be letting alot of people know of your lack of knowledge.

WHAT A JOKE

Dimi

Anyone with an ounce of marketing experience knows that these techniques work and your review (well i cant say it was a review) but your comments are really laughable and you should really stick to reviewing things YOU ACTUALLY HAVE SOME KNOWLEDGE OF because when I read it i just sighed and realized this guy had just been ripped off by paying for a review and getting nothing in return from a reviewer that does not have a clue.

really this is appauling give him his money back
